Will I need a VPS account to do something like this?

Hi,

I sell stuff on ebay, and currently I am thinking of implementing a script (or something) that will sort of check my mailbox periodically, and when a message arrives it will then parse it.

Currently under shared hosting I can't think of a way to doing it, would having a VPS account allow me to do something similar to this?

How were planning on getting the e-mail? On shared account, you can fetch the e-mail via POP3.

Hmm.. maybe a background process, like a cron job or something.

Checking periodically every say 10 minutes?

Yeah, use a cronjob. In fact a few customers do such things.
