The following notice has been sent to all shared hosting customers:

We are scheduling a maintenance work on this coming Monday, 12/06/2004, at around 2:00-3:00 AM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00). During this maintenance window, we will migrate one of our mail servers, mail1.fluidhosting.com, to a more powerful server. This is necessary because recently mail1.fluidhosting.com is serving thousands of domains and with all the antivirus and antispam processes, the server load has gone up significantly. We hope the new server, P4/3.2 GHz with HyperThreading, will give mail1.fluidhosting.com more CPU power to process these additional tasks/processes.

Only services on mail1.fluidhosting.com will be interrupted during this migration window. This includes IMAP, POP3, SMTP, and Webmail services. We anticipate the migration to last approximately an hour or two and we expect no complications. No other services will be affected, so your control panel, websites, and databases as well as services under other mail servers will continue to operate as normal. We realize mail services are likely to be the most important to our customers, so downtime will be kept as minimal as possible.

During the migration, email may not be fully operational, and thus you may not be able to communicate with us. To maintain communication, we will keep updating all customers through our community forums at at http://forums.fluidhosting.com/showthread.php?p=8517. You may also reach us at our IRC support channel at:

Server: irc.fluidhosting.com (64.247.20.10)
Channel: #support

Please plan accordingly for this maintenance windows. Should you have any questions and/or concerns regarding this migration, please do not hesitate to contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Sincerely,
Administrators
Fluid Hosting, LLC

Will any emails be lost - or will they just delayed?

Emails will be delayed; no email is expected to be lost at all.

How do tell if you will be affected?

If you are using mail.yourdomain.ext to check for email (POP/IMAP) or to send email, then if the IP of mail.yourdomain.ext is 66.150.201.101 or 66.150.201.72 then you will be affected. If you are using Windows, then you can check this by going to your c:\ command prompt and type:

nslookup mail.yourdomain.ext

Other customers may show how to check this on other OS platform.

Mail1.fluidhosting.com is now running on the new server. Downtime was approximately 15 minutes.

No mail should have been lost and all old settings should be retained. If you find anything out of place, please email us at support@fluidhosting.com right away.
