I'm considering moving a site to Fluid Hosting. Would some existing customers be willing to share their thoughts about the company?

Also, the site says that I could create as many mailing lists as I need. What software is used to run the mailing lists? Is it possible to create a moderated list (so that only someone authorized can post)? Is it possible to set replies to go to the list address (for discussion lists)?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Myth.
Although I've only been w/ Fluid Hosting for about a month and a half, I'm more than willing to share the opinions I've formed thus far.
1) Great Service. If you have a question or a problem - shoot an e-mail to their support. Either Jim or Dave will respond within a very short time period. Not only do they respond quickly, they actually know what they're talking about! I've never received canned responses (like you would from some hosts) and I've never gotten a "we'll look into this and get back to you in a week..."
Personally, coming from a large hosting provider *cough* Burlee *cough*, I found this to be a refreshing change.

2) Great Reliability. These guys keep current on security, and make sure your sites are hosted on servers w/ the latest security patches. Plus, they'll e-mail you and tell you what they're going to do, and when they plan on doing it. A lot of what they're doing doesn't always make sense to me, but I appreciate the fact that they inform their customers of what they're doing.

3) Great Price. Even at the "value pricing", the amount of disk space you get, the control you get over your domain, all the add-ons (bulletin boards, oscommerce support, php/msql, etc.) and the traffic volume are all great values. I've never experienced any down-time w/ them. And the speed with which my own hosted site loads is phenomenal.

I happened to hear about fluid from a web design list I belong to, and being skeptical, I signed up for a three-month plan. My logic being: if it didn't work out, I was only out the $50. Thankfully, it did, and I couldn't be happier. I believe they offer you a one month trial of sorts, whereby at the end of the month, if you're not satisfied, you get your money back. What more could you ask for?

I'm not affiliated w/ them in any way - just a really satisfied customer.

(oh, and I will be renewing my service agreement at the end of my three months)

Hope that helps you some!

Good luck w/ whatever you decide,
Brad

Hi Myth,

Welcome to Fluid Hosting Forum :)

Regarding your question on mailing lists:
- Software used: ezmlm (www.ezmlm.org)
- Moderated List: Yes it is possible
- Setting replies to the list address: Yes

You can have a look at the following page for details on our mailing list features:

http://www.fluidhosting.com/support/user/mailing_lists.html

Ezmlm is quite a powerful software for managing mailing lists. Have a look at their web site to see in full details on what it can do for you.

Regards
Jim

It does help, Brad. Thanks. Anyone else have stories to share? And thanks for the ezmlm info, Jim. Their site is down right now, but from the support info on your site, it appears at least as easy to use as majordomo.

I have to say that Fluid was a huge disappointment. After a database downtime (not the first and I had to notify them) -- 11am to 4pm on Friday 9/26 with major impact to my business tech support never offered an assurance of fixing of the problem despite many emails attempting to get that result by myself and my technical team. Although I had not requested a credit, they suggested I contact their billing group for one. I requested a 6 month credit. In response, the billing group accused me of exagerating the problem which their own tech team had full knowledge of and offered a $2.70 credit for my probably hundreds of dollars of business losses. Fluid then terminated my account without reason and refused to pay my substantial expenses. While I'm happy to go, it should be at their cost. In my opinion, this behavior is literally sickening. The staff member handling this was Dave Tong FYI.

Hi Coollawy,

There is always two sides of the same coin. I do not wish to prolong this issue on public. I am sure you, as an attorney yourself, am aware that doing so prior to your legal lawsuit threat may not be wise after all.

Since you have threatened us with a lawsuit, I am closing this thread to avoid any possible modifications to this thread. If the lawsuit does come, everything you said privately or publicly will be used as evidence against you.

Just a quick note, we have not suspended/terminated your site. Since we can't seem to satisfy you, we simply send you an email notification regarding our intention to discontinue service on 10/22/2003, 14 days in advance in accordance to our TOS. This should give you a plenty of time to make any arrangement to move your web site, perhaps to a more capable host than us. Should you require any recommendations of other reliable hosts, please do not hesitate to contact us/me.
