The following work has been scheduled with all all VPS Customers in Internap/Boston:

Dear Valued Customers,

Since June of 2004, Fluid Hosting has been building up and operating a secondary presence in another data center, in addition to the one we have in Internap Boston. This secondary presence is located within Equinix IBX data center in Secaucus, NJ (just 15 minutes off Manhattan, NYC). Equinix Secaucus data center is a tier-one carrier neutral data center, a $300 Million facility, boasting a total facility space of 200,000 square feet. Being a carrier neutral, Equinix gives us the freedom and flexibility to choose our network providers. Within this facility, we currently own a private cage and run our own BGP network using our own IP address space as assigned directly by the American Registry of Internet Numbers (ARIN).

The overhead of operating both presences has proven itself to be too high and inefficient to be indefinitely sustained. We believe that the time has come for us to start reconciling the two separate operations into one. This will allow us to concentrate all of our resources into sustaining only one single operation which will then further enable us to serve our customers better. Over the last eighteen months, we have been putting a considerable amount of resources, both financial and human resources, into building up and operating this secondary presence. We are happy to announce that our presence in Equinix/Secaucus has been growing to become our primary presence. Thus, we are planning to integrate our presence in Internap/Boston into Equinix/Secaucus.

This integration will imply a migration process for all customers in our Internap/Boston facility into our Equinix/Secaucus facility. We have been planning for this migration for the last few months and we believe we are ready to perform the migration within the next few days. Currently we have another set of servers in the Equinix/Secaucus facility to mirror the servers in the Internap/Boston facility. This will allow us to shorten the migration time and minimize all downtime by only migrating customers’ data rather than migrating the physical servers from one data center to another. For your information, the control panel server and all of our name servers are already located within Equinix/Secaucus data center. We would be migrating your VPS from the hardware node in our Internap/Boston data center to the new hardware node in our Equinix/Secaucus data center.

As part of this migration, your VPS IPs will be changed. Please contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com if you need to know your new VPS IPs prior to the migration time. When contacting us, please give your current VPS IPs and we will let you know your new VPS IPs.

There will be some downtime involve. However, we will minimize all possible downtime. In short, the migration involves two crucial steps:
1. migrating your VPS data to the new hardware nodes. This step will synchronize all of your VPS data from the source servers (in Internap/Boston) to the target servers (in Equinix/Secaucus). Once the VPS data is migrated over, your VPS will be stopped and another fast synchronization will be performed.
2. updating our name servers with the new IPs. We will keep the TTL on our name servers low as to allow faster propagation of the IP changes. If you use our name servers, there should be nothing you need to do. However, if you run your own name servers or rely on third party name servers, then please make sure your name servers are updated once your VPS has been migrated.

This migration process will be assisted by the VPS developers, SWSoft. This migration is scheduled to be performed on Friday, January 20th, 2006 starting at 11:00 PM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00). As we will be migrating VPS one by one, there is no ETA on when your VPS will be migrated or how long it will take to migrate each VPS. However, as outlined above, the actual downtime on your VPS will be kept at a minimum. Once your VPS has been migrated to the new data center, please plan for a downtime period of up to three hours, although we believe the actual downtime will be much shorter.

We are aware that this migration is as important for you as it is for us. Therefore, to ensure the smooth migration process, the following methods of communication will be maintained.
1. You can reach us through email via support[at]fluidhosting.com.
2. We will open our support phone line during this migration. This phone line will remain open until the migration is done. To use our phone support, please dial (860) 656-6191 and select option #3.
3. You can also reach us at our IRC support channel. The IRC server is located at support.fluidhosting.com and the channel name is #support.
4. We will also update the migration process in our community forum at http://forums.fluidhosting.com/showthread.php?p=14766.

Should you have any further questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Sincerely,
System Administrators

Just want to clarify,

Some of our VPS customers are already residing in Equinix data center and they will not be migrated.

Therefore:

if you do not receive the migration notice in your Admin or Technical contact email, then you will not be affected by this migration.

Hope this clarifies.

This has been a smooth migration. All VPSs at Internap/Boston have been successfully migrated with minimum downtime (only to do last synchronization).

The following email notification has been sent to all VPS customers migrated today.

Note: Please do not reply to this email directly as your reply will not be attended to. Instead, please direct all of your questions and/or concerns to support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Dear Valued Customers,

As of about 1 hour ago, we have migrated the last VPS from Internap/Boston to Equinix/Secaucus. All VPS are currently up and running in our Equinix/Secaucus data center. The migration was executed as planned and the downtime had been kept to a minimum (roughly around 10-20 minutes per VPS).

If you are using our nameservers, then there is nothing you need to do on your end. Our nameservers are already updated with the new IP. We had also reduced the TTL on our nameservers to speed up DNS propagation.

However, if you are running your own name servers, it is important for you to update your nameservers IP. If you have not already done so, please obtain your new VPS IPs by contacting us at support[at]fluidhosting.com. When contacting us, please provide your old VPS IPs. Once you obtain the new IPs, please update your name server IPs with your domain registrar. Also, please make sure that the name servers application you run on your VPS is listening to the new IPs.

If you are using third party name servers, then you will need to make sure to update your domain records/hostnames with the corresponding new IPs. Again, if you have not already done so, you can obtain your new VPS IPs by contacting us at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

For customers using CPanel/WHM, we have also licenses your new IPs so you should not have any problem running CPanel/WHM.

At this moment the VPS developer is still moving some VPS backups from the old node to the new nodes. Please check your VPS around and should you find any problems with your VPS, please contact us immediately at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Sincerely,
