The following maintenance work/migration has been scheduled with reseller customers currently still residing in Internap/Boston. If you do not receive this email notification, then you will not be affected. Thank you!

Note: Please do not reply to this email directly as your reply will not be attended to. Instead, please email us at support[at]fluidhosting.com with your questions or concerns.

Dear Valued Customers,

Since June of 2004, Fluid Hosting has been building up and operating a secondary presence in another data center, in addition to the one we have in Internap Boston. This secondary presence is located within Equinix IBX data center in Secaucus, NJ (just 15 minutes off Manhattan, NYC). Equinix Secaucus data center is a tier-one carrier neutral data center, a $300 Million facility, boasting a total facility space of 200,000 square feet. Being a carrier neutral, Equinix gives us the freedom and flexibility to choose our network providers. Within this facility, we currently own a private cage and run our own BGP network using our own IP address space as assigned directly by the American Registry of Internet Numbers (ARIN).

The overhead of operating both presences has proven itself to be too high and inefficient to be indefinitely sustained. We believe that the time has come for us to start reconciling the two separate operations into one. This will allow us to concentrate all of our resources into sustaining only one single operation which will then further enable us to serve our customers better. Over the last eighteen months, we have been putting a considerable amount of resources, both financial and human resources, into building up and operating this secondary presence. We are happy to announce that our presence in Equinix/Secaucus has been growing to become our primary presence. Thus, we are planning to integrate our presence in Internap/Boston into Equinix/Secaucus.

This integration will imply a migration process for all customers in our Internap/Boston facility into our Equinix/Secaucus facility. We have been planning for this migration for the last few months and we believe we are ready to perform the migration within the next few days. Currently we have another set of servers in the Equinix/Secaucus facility to mirror the servers in the Internap/Boston facility. This will allow us to shorten the migration time and minimize all downtime by only migrating customers’ data rather than migrating the physical servers from one data center to another. We will be migrating all services in Internap/Boston during this migration window. And for such, all customers still residing in Internap/Boston will be affected. Furthermore, this migration will involve a change of IPs as we will be required to renumber all IPs to our own assigned IP space.

There will be some downtime involve. However, we will minimize all possible downtime. In short, the migration will involve two crucial steps:
1. Synchronizing all data between the source servers (in Internap/Boston) to the target servers (in Equinix/Secaucus). Once the initial data has been synchronized, we will stop all services and do a final and quick data synchronization. This will ensure that the target servers will be an exact mirror of the source servers.
2. Once the data has been copied to the new servers, we will start to redirect the all mail and web (UNIX only) traffic from the old servers to the the server. This step is important as the new servers will be on new IP address space. So, before DNS propagation is finished, we will need to redirect traffic that comes to the old IP address space to the new IP address space.

Please note, there will be no traffic redirection on windows web servers. And thus, during DNS propagation, traffic will be going on both old and new servers. To make sure that your files are synchronized, please only update your files at least 48-72 hours after the migration has been performed.

This migration process will be assisted by control panel developers, PSOFT. And the time slot that PSOFT has given us for this migration is Wednesday, January 25th. The migration will commence at around 4 AM Eastern Time (9 AM GMT). We estimate the migration will take around 5-8 hours to complete. The downtime itself will be estimated to be around 1-2 hours or even less. We will work closely with PSOFT to ensure the smooth migration process.

For your information, the following services will be migrated:

UNIX servers:
web1.host80.com. Old IP: 66.150.199.4. New IP: 204.14.88.44
db1.host80.com. Old IP: 66.150.199.2. New IP: 204.14.88.46

Windows servers:
win1.host80.com. Old IP: 66.150.199.200. New IP: 204.14.88.45

Please note that for the web servers, the server IP is also the shared IP. Thus, the new shared IP will be the new IP listed above. If your domain(s) or sub-domain(s) use a dedicated IP, your IP will also change. If you are using our reseller DNS IPs as your name servers (e.g. you use our server to run your nameservers), then there is nothing you would need to do. However, some of your customers may be using third party name servers and thus, they may need to know what their new IP would be. You can obtain the new IP for your domains/your customer’s domains by contacting us at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

We are aware that this migration is as important for you as it is for us. Therefore, to ensure the smooth migration process, the following methods of communication will be maintained.
1. You can reach us through email via support[at]fluidhosting.com.
2. We will open our support phone line 5 hours early, starting at 4 AM Eastern Time (9 AM GMT) on December 8th. This phone line will remain open until the end of our phone support hours coverage at 9PM Eastern Time or until the migration is done, whichever is later. To use our phone support, please dial (860) 656-6191 and select option #3.
3. You can also reach us at our IRC support channel. The IRC server is at support.fluidhosting.com and the channel name is #support.
4. We will also update the migration process in our community forum at http://forums.fluidhosting.com/showthread.php?p=14810.

Should you have any further questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Sincerely,

The following additional information for Reseller Migration (NS1 migration) has been sent to all resellers affected.

Note: Please do not reply to this email directly as your reply will not be attended to. Instead, please email us at support[at]fluidhosting.com with your questions or concerns.

Dear Valued Customers,

As we have notified earlier, we are scheduling migration of all reseller servers still in Internap/Boston to Equinix/Secaucus. As part of this migration plan, both of your name servers will also be migrated. It is important not to migrate both of your name servers at the same time as it may cause an unnecessary additional downtime to your website/customers.

Therefore, to make sure that at any give time, there will always be at least one name server running, we are planning to move the ns1 service two days prior to the rest of the migration. The ns1 service will be migrated on Monday, January 23rd starting at 4 AM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00). No service interruption to your and your customers' websites should be expected at this time because your ns2 will still be running.

On Wednesday, January 25th we will migrate your ns2. While ns2 is being migrated, again, no service interruption to your and your customers’ websites should be expected because ns1 will be running.

This migration requires both of your name servers IP be changed. It is important for you to know what the new IPs for your name servers will be. To make sure that you do not experience additional un-necessary downtime, please do the following:

1. Please obtain the new IPs for your name servers by emailing us at support[at]fluidhosting.com. In the support ticket you sent us, please provide your current name servers IPs.
2. After your ns1 has been migrated on Monday, please change your ns1 IP to the new IP.
3. On Wednesday, after your ns2 has been migrated, you can change your ns2 IP to the new IP.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com should you have any questions/concerns regarding this migration.

Sincerely,
System Administrators

Thanks John,

What's the best action to take if a domain's DNS is controlled using Zoneedit rather than Fluid's DNS servers?

The DNS records have a low TTL value so the sites can be switched over quite quickly but I'm not sure about timing it (i.e. do I wait for you to post the 'all-clear' before I do it?)

And could you tell us what the new IP for mail.host80.com will be? (I don't recall seeing it in your email notification - apologies if I've missed it!)

FH-John

mail.host80.com will have the IP 204.14.88.43

As for updating your site's IP, I would wait for the all clear notice.

Sorry for the ignorant question, but I do not provide my registrar (godaddy) with an IP, I simply have the name server listed (i.e., ns1.prudentiagroup.com, etc.). When/where is the IP used?

I assume this is disabled for the migration? I have some clients using Oscommerce so there site does not work with it disabled. Do you plan on enabling register_globals?

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it

Thanks

MySQL and PgSQL server have been migrated.

Mail server has been migrated as well.

Windows web server is still being worked on. There are some issues discovered while they attempted to migrate the windows web server service. I am still waiting for update from PSOFT.

Unix web server has been migrated, but with small glitches:
- some old IPs have been out. Thus, PSOFT is doing IP Migration on the unix web server again.
- some domains are reported to be showing up the default HSphere's utility page. We have notified PSOFT and they are taking a look into this.

Are you still getting the db error when you try to access webmail? Webmail should be working already. Try to ping your mail's hostname and see if it's still pointing to the old IP. If so, try flush your machine's dns cache: go to Start -> Run, type "command", click OK, type "ipconfig /flushdns". See if that clears the old IP.

just looked a little closer at my mail control panel page. both links, horde and SqWebMail are there but the horde link is in the table cell. it's in with the SqWebMail table cell. neither webmail links work though.

horde: A fatal error has occurred
DB Error: connect failed
Details have been logged for the administrator.

SqWebMail: Internal Error
The webmail system is temporarily unavailable. An error occured in function write: Socket is not connected

hosting tools are still showing instead of websites.

Those who are getting HSphere default page, please open a ticket with support@fluidhosting.com and tell us the domains. At this moment, PSOFT is postponing the migration of windows server until tommorow. They encountered troubles and they could not finish the migration in time.

Another update, NS2 has been migrated. You should now update your NS2 to the new IP at your registrar.

Unix web server, MySQL/PgSQL, Mail, and NS2 have been succefully migrated. Please check everything for any problem you see.

Windows web server migration will be postponed until tommorow. There are some domains showing up HSphere's default utility page. Please contact us at support@fluidhosting.com with the domain names having problem.

Thank you.

We finally figured out how to fix the IIS issue where the sites in the Windows webserver couldn't be started. At this time, all websites on the Windows webserver in the reseller cluster have been started up and running. If you are still have any problem with your site under the Windows webserver, please contact support@fluidhosting.com.

The following email update notification has been sent to all migrated reseller customers.

Note: Please do not reply to this email directly as your reply will not be attended to. Instead, please direct al of your questions and/or concerns to support[at]fluidhosting.com.

Dear Valued Customers,

The following email is to give you the update status on this planned migration. The following services have been successfully migrated.
- UNIX Web Services
- MySQL and PgSQL database Services
- Mail Services
- NS2 Service

No unexpected problem were encountered for the migration of the above services. Please check your domains and report us any problems your customer/domains may have encountered.

Also, as NS2 Service has been migrated, it is important that you change your NS2 IP at your registrar. Please do this at your soonest convenience.

The migration of windows web services were not as smooth as it had planned. PSOFT encountered unexpected problem and they have to reschedule the migration until tommorow (in about 8 hours of time from now). The problems on the Windows web server caused some domains to be responding incorrectly or not responding at all. As of around 9 PM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00), we were able to fix the problem and all windows accounts/domains are up and running again. We will finish off the migration of the windows server tommorow. We expect a much smoother migration on the Windows Web Service tommorow.

We will continue using our forums at http://forums.fluidhosting.com/showthread.php?t=2656 to keep track of the migration and to update you.

Should you have any further questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at support[at]fluidhosting.com. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Windows Web Service has been migrated. IP Migration has been performed. FTP Service on the old windows server has been disabled.

At this moment, HTTPS does not seem to be responding. We are aware of the problem and are checking into this. Everything else seems to work fine.

Please check your/your customers' websites.

Also, I noticed that some resellers still have not updated their NS1 and/or NS2 IP to the new one. Please do this as soon as possible to avoid any un-necessary complexity/problems.

FH-Dave

HTTPS on new windows server is now working.

This concludes the whole migration process. Everything should be working by now. Please check your/your customers' websites. Should you find any problem/anomaly, please report them to support[at]fluidhosting.com immediately.

We will leave the old servers on for the next few days, at least until 01/29/2006.

Note again: do make sure you change your name servers IPs with your registrar.

Thank you for working with us through this migration process!

Will there be any new upgrades to the reseller plans now that the move has been completed?
