Compact hosting looks like it would be more than sufficient for my needs, except for one thing - the number of domains. I need a dozen domains, and paying an extra $20 a month seems a bit unreasonable. Do extra domains actually use any system resources at all, beyond a few kb in config files? Why can't domains be "as many as needed" just like subdomains? Many hosts do offer unlimited domains, but they tend to also come with wildly exaggerated claims about disk space and bandwidth, which obviously do require real system resources.

Also, does live support have more department options for logged in users? It currently shows "online", but clicking on it brings up a screen listing just "Department: General - offline".

Hosting additional domains does require a bit more than just config file entries. Since each domain has Spam, and Virus filtering there is the potential for increased resource needs on our mail servers.

In addition, our pricing is based on customers typically wanting a separate database per domain, for those that use database driven sites or applications.

As for Live Support, there is only one "department" which is General. If Live Support is listed as Online, then the department shouldn't be listed as Offline.

Just a thought. You could register your 12 domains at whatever registrar you use and have them forwarded to a subdomain that you have set up at Fluidhosting. Most registrars have some kind of masking feature so visitors to these sites would probably never notice they're hitting a different domain.

Virus filtering presumably only applies to non-spam sent to valid addresses, and there's no difference in the resources used for spam filtering and virus checks between mail sent to someone@projectx.maindomain.com and sent to someone@projectx.org. So you charge $24/year to discard any spam sent to randomly made up addresses at each domain?

No, additional databases are charged separately at $3/month.

*shrug* it was listed as such last night.
