The following email notification has been sent to all shared hosting customers. Only shared hosting customers will be affected. No VPS, dedicated, colo, and reseller customers will be affected.
Dear Valued Customer,
As some of you have noticed, lately the mail server was having some reliability/stability problems. Initially we thought the problem was only due to a lack of available memory. We performed the memory upgrade 9 days ago. However, since the last two days or so, mail server had shown additional problems that we think is hard drive related. Currently the mail server is also serving as a backup server. The backup servers backs up all of your files (daily incremental and full weekly). Because of the problems experience on mail server, we have decided to:
1. do an emergency mail server migration to its own dedicated server. This migration will be performed Tuesday, 04/20/2004 at around 9 PM EDT (GMT -04:00). Because of the nature of the problem we are facing, we feel it is important to schedule a mail server migration as soon as possible, even without 24 hours notification ahead of time. We expect the mail server downtime to be no more than 30-60 minutes or so. Most of the time will be to transfer all the customers email data to the new mail server.
2. turn of backup services. No customer
data will be backed up until backup server is turned on again after the mail server migration and/or after we receive a new backup server (most possibly, on a NAS).
In addition, we are also in the plan of bringing a new mail server and start putting off new clients to this new mail server. Doing so will enable us to share the load on the mail server as well as not having all customers served by single mail server.
Should you have any questions/concerns about this scheduled maintenance, please email us at support@fluidhosting.com.
Sincerely,
Administrator,
